Baby Strollers For the Modern Mom

A baby stroller is one of the most useful pieces of equipment you will ever own. Baby strollers give you the freedom to take your little one out with you on errands or to enjoy a leisurely walk for some fresh air.

Things have changed since the days when taking baby for a walk in the park meant dressing up in high heels and a hat and cruising around in a monogrammed "pram" with large chrome wheels the size of a Mercedes Benz. Limousine style baby carriages are still used today (mostly by the nanny), but modern mothers prefer more practical strollers that can be used for everyday activities.

The basic lightweight "umbrella" stroller is a great buy. Umbrella strollers are typically the smallest and least expensive type of stroller. Light weight, but sturdy, they fold up easily and can be carried with one hand or tucked in the back seat of your car. Your baby will be comfortable in a relaxed sit back position and you will enjoy the ease of pushing the stroller through grocery isles or on relaxed walks in the park.

The most common stroller is the standard stroller. Usually more expensive than umbrella strollers, standard strollers usually have higher quality wheels and frames making them more durable. For everyday activities you will get a lot of use from a standard stroller. Bottles and baby bedding blankets can be tucked in the storage pockets to give you hands-free ease.

The limo of today's stroller models is the double stroller. They come in two styles and are a necessity for mothers with two small children. The side by side style gives children the opportunity to interact, but may be a little more difficult for maneuvering since it is wider. The front-to-back configuration is very functional because it makes it easier to get through doorways and navigate isles in stores. For families with multiple small children, triple and quadruple strollers are also available.

If you love power walking or running, a jogging stroller may be the best type of stroller for you. Fitted with extra large and durable wheels for safety, a jogging stroller allows you to combine your physical routine with your little one's daily outing leaving you more time for other activities. Higher-end models are equipped with bicycle-style caliper brakes for making safe stops.

Whatever type of stroller you select, make sure that it has a sturdy seat belt for safety. Many strollers come with adjustable visors to protect your child from harsh sun and rain. Be sure to find out what features are available on the stroller you select the extra cost is usually well worth it.
