Child Clothes Shopping Tips and Ideas
Whether you need new clothes for your infant, preemie, or toddler, shopping for your little one can be a fun task. If you're getting clothes for your first baby then you most likely will not have the luxury of "hand-me-down" clothes from previous children. This can be both good and bad.
Economically speaking, buying all new clothes will of course put a dent in your wallet. Doing the proper research before you go clothes shopping can provide quite a sizable payoff. Research carefully and decide what you want and your price range beforehand. Now you can shop as an "informed shopper" who can distinguish between a good deal and merchandise that is far too overpriced.
Here are some tips and ideas for children's clothing:
Diaper Covers: The baby's diaper is one place that can accommodate some style and is often overlooked. Diaper covers are available in all sorts of styles and sizes, and some can be personalized with an inscription of the baby's name or some elaborate coloring. Nonabsorbent diaper covers are great because they won't saturate clothing when wetness occurs, and they will stay clean longer. Securing the diaper cover is typically done by way of Velcro or elastic.
Children's Shoes: When shopping for your child's shoes, it is always a good idea to go in the afternoon or evening. This is necessary because people's feet swell throughout the day, thus this will help prevent the purchase of shoes that are too small. Also, periodically check the fit of your child's current shoes, as kids will not always tell you when their shoes are no longer fitting properly. Check for excessive wear, especially at the front and sides of the shoe.
Wintertime Play: Getting out of the house and playing outside is a great form of exercise for children, especially in the wintertime. In order to prevent your child from getting too warm, dress them in layers. This will allow them to take off layers of clothing accordingly when they warm up from all the physical activity.
Summertime Play: As outside play is even a more common activity during the warm summer months, it is still important to make sure that your child is dressed accordingly. During the summer, dress your child in thinner clothing that is lightly colored. The darker the clothing, the more heat it will absorb and retain, which is not ideal in hot climates.
Your Baby's Blanket: When buying a baby security blanket, it's best to choose one that has some satin on it. Satin tends to absorb the scent of the child, therefore making it more comforting. When trying to introduce a new blankie, mom should try sleeping with it for a night or two herself to get her scent on the fabric, then give it to the child. The blankie will be accepted more readily when it reminds them of mommy when cuddled. Remember to not buy one not too large to be carried around or you'll find it getting caught everywhere when dragged. Always have a spare for wash day, so your child has one to cuddle while the other is away being cleaned
Remember that the really young-ones cannot always communicate to you if the comfort level of some certain clothing is below par. Buying quality brands in the proper sizes can help you be sure that that all the clothing bought for your child is comfortable as well as stylish.
