Emergency Home Remedies
Every Grandmother has her "magic" medicine cabinet for emergencies. Here is a collection of prompt responses if a doctor is not readily available. Have you ever been awaked during the middle of the night by your child crying because of an earache? They want immediate relief and all you have is ibuprofen and that will take awhile to start working. This is one of the times that you need to be able to rely on Home remedies. As always home remedies are not meant to take the place of a doctor's advice. IF YOU ARE PREGNANT OR NURSING DO NOT USE HOME REMEDIES without the permission of your doctor.
NAUSEA:
Ginger: make and drink ginger tea
Catnip: Yes the weed that grows in your yard. Steep leaves as a tea for 5 minutes before straining and let cool.
Peppermint: Drink tea as needed 1 cup of water to 1/4-1/2 cup fresh leaves steep 10 minutes and strain out leaves. You may also use the peppermint tea that is sold at your local health food store or grocery store.
POISON IVY RASHES:
Oats: You can use a basic oatmeal bath. Put whole oats not instant into a washcloth and tie shut, then pour a cup of oatmeal into the bath and soak in the bath and wash the skin with the washcloth. Be sure to immediately wash the cloth afterwards so you do not pass on the poison ivy to others.
You can also use Johnson's foot bath works the same way.
SORE THROAT:
Coat throat with 1 tablespoon of honey
STOMACH ACHES:
Ginger Tea: In a pinch you can use ginger from the spice rack. 1/4 tsp to 1/2 tsp to 1 cup boiling water. Steep 10 minutes cool and sip.
Peppermint Tea: Made from tea bags or home grown peppermint plants. If using fresh leaves use 1/4-1/2 cup of leaves to 1 cup of boiling water strain and sip slowly.
Chamomile: Drink up to 3 cups of tea daily steeping 5 minutes
EARACHES:
Garlic Cloves: heat up 1/2 a garlic clove in the microwave in a moist towel for about 15 seconds. Place lightly over ear this will help drain out some of the fluid.
Can do the same thing with 1/2 an onion.
