Look for Comfort and Safety When Setting Up your Baby's Room

Creating a lovely nursery for your newborn is one of the best ways to welcome your little cherub to the world. Occasionally creating that special room turns our perfect the first time, but usually there's a lot of trial and error before you get it just right. Most folks can't duplicate the beautiful vision they see in their heads. Wouldn't it be wonderful if a fairy godmother landed to wave her magic wand and do it for you?

How many times have you heard someone say "I'm just not good at decorating?" But it's really not about that at all. Every item in your nursery should pass the SAFETY test first and be COMFORTABLE too. Here are some hints to help you with creating you're baby's first room:

  • Start early. Even if you don't know the sex of your child, make plans early and get informed. If you don't have time to hit the specialty shops and malls, try scouting on the Web. Baby items are a huge industry and there are many outstanding companies that offer great products on the Web. You can find anything from hand-crafted furniture to baby bedding at the click of the mouse. And, think of the time and energy you'll save.

  • Take an inventory of your shower gifts and the items you already have, then fill in what you need and go online and find the best prices for all your baby needs. There's no sense in having 15 bunting sets and not enough t-shirts for everyday wear. Start small but make sure you have at least a minimum supply of everyday necessities. Remember that baby grows quickly so plan a little ahead for growth.

  • It's every woman's dream to have a beautiful stylish nursery but COMFORT and SAFETY are most important. Don't overdo. You don't want your baby's room to look like a stage set. It is a primary living space and should be efficient for you to upkeep as well as enjoy. Little things like a new stuffed animal or a pretty picture can freshen a room even if you're using hand me downs. As your baby grows and becomes more aware of the surroundings after a year or two you'll be more confident as you make major changes. Toddler furniture and toddler bedding sets will probably be your major purchase. By then, you'll have a much better idea of what really works for your child.
